What and Why:

iBooks is an amazing way to download and read books. iBooks includes the iBookstore, where you can download the latest best-selling books or your favorite classics – day or night. Browse your library on a beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or a tap, and bookmark or add notes to your favorite passages.
(Description from iTunes.)

Go to Library and look under "Top Chart." Select and download a book from the Top Free Books section. You can also search for free books. Be aware that you may stumble across some books which have adult content. For free math or science textbooks, search for the terms "CK" I recommend you download one of the iPad books. Try these activities
  1. change the font size and page orientation
  2. adjust the brightneess; quickly return to the table of contents
  3. quickly drag to a new page with the scoll button on the bottom
  4. look up a word you don't know by double tapping and go to the dictionary
  5. highlight words which are new to you by going to the highlight. Add a note to a word you want to remember.
  6. book mark a page and return to it from the bookmarks menu from the table of contents
  7. Go to: http://bit.ly/mann1 and open the .pdf. This .pdf was placed in a public folder in Dropbox on the computer and the URL was shared (I'll show this in the Dropbox session.)

iBooks can also be used to view .pdf documents. These can be your own .pdf documents synced to the iPad or brought in from the iBooks Store or from Dropbox.

Karen Bosch from Southfield Christian shared these three amazing iBooks she created. These links must be click on with a device which can download and save them in ePub format. It works best to go to this page and click on these links from a browser in your iPad. Select to open them in iBooks.

There are tools to create ePubs documents like what Karen created and shared above. Some of these are apps and some programs for your laptop or desktop computer and still others are websites.

iPad Apps include:
  1. Popplet lite For storyboarding - does not create ePub books
  2. eBook Magic $3.99
  3. Book Creator $6.99
