Evernote

What and Why:

Evernote turns the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad into an extension of your brain, helping you remember anything and everything that happens in your life. From notes to ideas to snapshots to recordings, put it all into Evernote and watch as it instantly synchronizes from your iPhone to your Mac or Windows desktop. (Description from iTunes.)

Activity:

  1. Create an account in Evernote if you don't have one already. Create a new note. In that note, include text, a short audio recording (remember where the microphone is located) and an image. Add a few tags (this helps in finding and organizing your notes.) If you have Evernote on your desktop computer, sync Evernote. Look for the note on your desktop computer.
  2. Look at your email address Evernote provides you (under under your user name in the upper right corner => Evernote email address.) If you add this to your contacts (call it Evernote) you can email notes, photos, and audio clips right into an Evernote notebook.
  3. Follow the directions in the link below to add an Evernote webclipping shortcut to the Safari toolbar.

Alternatives:

  • Springpad is a combination note collector and task manager. I like that it can use geo location technology to find things like restaurants around where you are located. The desktop solution is browser based.
