CloudOn

What and Why:

CloudOn is currently free (Feb. 2, 2012.) Even if you had to pay for it, it would be worth it. CloudOn provides a Microsoft Office 2007 like graphical user interface (GUI) to word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation documents which you access through your Dropbox account. The only down side - is like the name implies, you must be connected to the "cloud" to use these tools. From the CloudOn app you can open, edit, and save Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files which have been previously saved into your Dropbox folder. You can also begin a new Word, Excel, or PowerPoint like document and is saved directly into Dropbox when it's created. Saving to Dropbox and having a file show up in Dropbox back on your computer can take a few minutes.

Activity:

  1. Begin a new Word document and save it into Dropbox. Use some of the built-in editing tools. You may opt for using a stylus as some of the menu choices are difficult to select with the tip of your finger.
  2. Open a PowerPoint file created on your computer and saved to Dropbox. Try run it like you would a typical PowerPoint presentation.
